Live event illustration at Gleneagles Golf Resort

Painting, Portraits, and an Autumn Adventure

Earlier this year, I had a fun and unique experience at a golf charity event supporting the Erskine Veterans Charity.

The event took place at the famous Gleneagles, a beautiful golf course surrounded by breathtaking scenery.

The day was all about raising money for veterans, and the golfers had a fantastic time playing on the greens.

In the evening, during the big charity dinner, I was ready to do live portrait illustrations of the golfers.

I had my sketchbook, pencils, and lots of excitement to capture their faces in fun and creative ways.

But here’s the thing – after a full day of golfing, these men were too tired to book a portrait! Most of them just wanted to eat, chat, and relax. Their wives were home and I even tried the “gift for your wife” ?

At first, I wasn’t sure what to do. But then I looked around and saw how stunning the scenery at Gleneagles was. The autumn season had painted the landscape with rich colors of gold, orange, and red. The trees looked like they were glowing, and the crisp air added a cozy touch to the evening.

In the cafe bar clubhouse, there was displayed on the walls, lots of vintage golf illustrations. I fell in love with these! I do love vintage illustration.

Instead of portraits, I decided to sketch watercolor scenes of the beautiful autumn landscape.

I painted the hotel against the course and the warm light of the buildings as the sun set.

Even though my original plan didn’t work out, I ended up with some wonderful paintings of Gleneagles in all its autumn glory.

This experience taught me something important: sometimes, plans change, and that’s okay! When things don’t go as expected, you can find new ways to make the most of the moment.

Have you ever had a plan change but discovered something amazing instead?

That’s exactly what happened to me at this event. Autumn turned out to be the perfect muse for my art.
